The new series entitled `Royal Abstract` underline Schibli‘s significance as a protagonist in the field of contemporary abstract painting.
Informed by a total freedom of movement ‚Royal Abstract‘ presents Schibli‘s most recent exploration of the potential to free painterly practise from the control of conscious. As Schibli states, in allowing the „unconscious to move the brush and the tube“, the paintings become a reflection of his psychological status.
Painting only using Ultramarine Blue, Red and Cosmos Black. Reduced to a minimal amount of Blue and Gold brush strokes, a layer of Cosmos Black of intuitive pouring and to finish a splashing Red. Schibli presents us with captured moments of his creative impulse and instantaneity.
